Dr. Brent Hirschi at Muscle Works Chiropractic is a VA-credentialed chiropractic provider serving veterans in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and throughout north Idaho. Qualifying veterans with a VA community care referral can receive the full range of muscle-based chiropractic care at Muscle Works at no cost — no copay, no deductible, no out-of-pocket expense.

The Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes chiropractic care as a valuable, evidence-based part of managing musculoskeletal pain, and through the VA Community Care Network, veterans can access chiropractic providers in their own community when VA facilities don’t offer the service or when wait times are too long. Dr. Hirschi is one of the providers in the network serving the Coeur d’Alene area.
The process is straightforward. Once you have a referral from your VA primary care provider, the VA authorizes a set number of chiropractic visits at Muscle Works. Our team handles the billing directly with the VA, so you never see a bill and never pay out of pocket. You simply show up, receive care, and leave.
What makes Muscle Works different from a standard VA chiropractic referral is the muscle-first approach. Many veterans have been through the conventional pain-management pipeline — injections, medications, and chiropractic care that provides brief relief before the pain returns. Dr. Hirschi’s muscle-first philosophy treats the root cause: muscles that have shut down due to service-related injuries, compensations, or years of wear and tear.
Your first visit begins with a thorough history and a detailed movement screen. Dr. Hirschi will ask about your service history, prior injuries, surgeries, deployments, and the specific complaints that prompted your VA referral. He’ll also run through a muscle testing protocol to identify which muscles have gone offline.
Treatment itself uses the same techniques every Muscle Works patient receives: Muscle Therapy to restore muscle firing, gentle Activator Method adjustments for the spine and extremities, myofascial release for soft tissue restrictions, acupressure for nervous system support, and shockwave therapy when appropriate for chronic tendon and ligament injuries. There’s no twisting, no aggressive manipulation, and no one-size-fits-all protocol — just care tailored to what your body actually needs.

Chiropractic care at Muscle Works may help with these complaints, but every veteran’s situation is unique. Dr. Hirschi will tell you honestly if he thinks your condition is a good fit for what we do — and will refer you elsewhere if it’s not.

Dr. Hirschi comes from a military family and has genuine respect for the unique physical demands of service life. He understands that veterans are looking for something that actually works — not another bounce between appointments. The muscle-first philosophy is specifically designed to identify long-standing compensation patterns and unwind them, which is exactly the kind of problem many veterans are carrying.
Muscle Works is conveniently located in downtown Coeur d’Alene at 110 East Wallace Avenue, with easy access from Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake, and the broader north Idaho VA community. The clinic is small, personal, and focused — you’ll see Dr. Hirschi at every visit, not a rotating cast of providers.
How do I get a referral for VA chiropractic care?
Start by contacting your VA primary care provider and asking for a chiropractic referral through the VA Community Care Network. Once approved, call Muscle Works at (208) 660-2480 and we’ll coordinate scheduling with the VA authorization.
Is there really no cost?
Correct. If your referral is approved and authorized, you’ll pay nothing out of pocket. No copay, no deductible, no balance bill. Muscle Works bills the VA directly for your visits.
How many visits will I get?
The VA typically authorizes a specific number of visits with each referral (often 6–12, but it varies). Dr. Hirschi’s muscle-first approach tends to resolve issues in fewer visits than traditional chiropractic, so most veterans see significant relief within the authorized number of sessions. Additional visits can usually be re-authorized if needed.
Does it hurt?
No. The Activator Method used at Muscle Works is one of the gentlest chiropractic techniques available — no twisting, no cracking. Muscle Therapy is also very low-intensity. Most veterans are surprised how different and how much more comfortable it is compared to traditional chiropractic.
How is Muscle Works different from other VA chiropractors?
Most chiropractors focus on joint manipulation. Muscle Works starts with the muscles that hold those joints in place, then delivers gentle adjustments, myofascial release, and shockwave therapy as needed. That muscle-first approach tends to produce longer-lasting relief — which matters a lot when you’re using a limited number of authorized visits.
Can family members use my referral?
No. VA community care referrals are specific to the veteran named on the authorization. However, we welcome spouses, children, and other family members as regular patients at Muscle Works.
